#TBT | “I Shall Return Again” Artist Talk

#TBT | National Gallery West hosted its inaugural Artist Talk to accompany our “I Shall Return Again” exhibition in December 2018. Moderated by Chief Curator, O’Neil Lawrence, this conversation featured three of the seven artists in the exhibition, Monique Gilpin, Leasho Johnson, and Cosmo Whyte, alongside guest panelist, Carla Moore, lecturer in Gender and Development Studies at the University of the West Indies’ Western Campus. The discussion explored the ways in which the themes of postcolonial identities, gender, sexuality and Dancehall culture are explored in their work and how these themes relate to the Western Jamaican realities. A Conversation with Nile Saulter & Storm Saulter who were also featured in this exhibition was hosted later on in January 2019.

The Artist Talk was held inside National Gallery West located at the Montego Bay Cultural Center.

#TBT | School Tour

It was definitely a pleasure welcoming young minds from the Fairfield International Academy to National Gallery West in 2018. They were given a tour of our ‘I Shall Return Again’ exhibition as well as engaged in National Gallery West’s Art Supply Initiative. We miss seeing our young visitors, however we are hopeful that some day, under the new normal, we will meet again. Continue to stay safe everyone.
