#TBT | Maroon Trail Tour

In honor of Children’s month, today’s #TBT features highlights from our Children’s Summer Workshop field trip to Flagstaff, St. James. As part of National Gallery West and National Museum West’s past summer workshop programs, we have always incorporated field trips to broaden the scope of learning for our groups by having them experience other historical landmarks and spaces. In the summer of 2019, we took a trip to Flagstaff in the cockpit country for a guided tour highlighting the the Maroon and British occupation, which also featured indigenous foods, as well as highlighting the importance of the cockpit country regarding biodiversity and preservation. We were given the tour down the Maroon trail by Chief Michael Grizzle.

Virtual Summer Workshop Meet the Team

Hello everyone. Meet the team behind the Virtual Summer Workshop.
Our annual summer workshop was unfortunately affected, as many industries have been by Covid-19. In an effort to continue to give back to the community especially those who support and look forward to our yearly engagements, we decided to recreate our summer workshop and provide a virtual experience in light of the pandemic.
We value the efforts of providing you with an experience that was certainly incomparable to any we’ve ever had as well as the efforts of those that participated. We enjoyed each tutorial that we made and we hope that you had as much fun as we did in completing each project.

From all of us at National Museum West and National Gallery West, we hope that you continue to strive to reach your ultimate creatively unique self.

We thank you for your involvement and we hope to see you again next year.

MBCC Virtual Summer Workshop

Workshop5

In the spirit of Jamaica and its people in their full historical and cultural glory, the Montego Bay Cultural Centre is pleased to present its Virtual Summer Workshop. Our objective is to encourage the creativity and imagination of our youth by allowing them to explore ideas through the creation of craft projects from the comfort of their own home.

We aim to encourage creative and critical thinking skills virtually by using various aspects of Jamaica’s natural and material history and culture. Designed for youth ages 7- 12, our activities will guide and encourage youth to cultivate a sense of community through empowerment, perception, identification, and creative expression.

Activities will begin on August 10,2020 and each child will be required to submit their completed project by Friday of the same week. Submissions will be reviewed and scored. The child with the highest score wins and will be announced on the first day of the following week before the project is announced.
